SIRENE National BUREAU was established în 2004 and became operational in 2010. SIRENE stands for Supplementary Information Request at the National Entries.
SIRENE National Bureau is responsible for the information exchange regarding the alerts on persons and objects introduced by the UE Member States and associated into Schengen Information System (SIS).
Each country that uses SIS has set up a national SIRENE Bureau, operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, that is responsible for exchanging information and coordinating activities connected to SIS alerts. Europol has also set up a SIRENE Bureau.
A secured dedicated network and standard forms are used for a smooth cooperation between the SIRENE Bureaus. An immediate exchange of information and intelligence on SIS alerts is ensured and data protection rules according to EU rules are applying.
